Have you ever had a morning like this? I woke up nice and late. I had a doctors appointment at 9:00. (The nature of the appointment is none of your beeswax) That wouldn't normally be a problem because Konden is usually rushing us out the door at 7:45 so he can catch the 8:00 shuttle to ASU. But not today. As I said we both woke up a little late and we both went running and we both had breakfast and I guess we were both just feeling groovy, because neither of us had that sense of urgency that usually goes with the morning. Well Eliza just stared at her breakfast for about 20 minutes, so we told her to go back to bed. So Jane got ready for school and I walked her by herself. By this time, I was gaining that urgency because I would need to leave by 8:30 to get everyone dropped off and make it to my appointment on time. Unfortunately Eliza woke up at 8:30 feeling much better and ready to go to school. So I had to get her dressed and ready. We finally got out the door around 8:45 with only 3 places to go, and Norah hungry and poopy, before my 9:00 appointment. I now had to drop off Eliza at school, then drop off Edith and Aster for a "playdate" (aka babysitting) at the Stone's, then to ASU west to drop off Konden for the 9:00 shuttle, and then to my appointment. It was impossible. I kept muttering, "I can't do this, I can't do this" Miraculously enough, I walked in only 15 minutes (I rounded down to ten minutes when I signed in) late. She asked "Can I help you?"
"Yes, I'm Mary Smith I have an appointment at 9:00" She rifled through her papers, not finding me.
" Are you here for the glucose test?"
"No I'm here for [none of your business]"
"I'm not finding your chart..."
"well, I'm a little late, did I miss my appointment?" Then another receptionist walks in
"Your apointment is at 10:30."
10:30. That's pretty rich. After all that. You know what they say: If you're not an hour and a half early, you're late.
So, I'm talking to the Dr and I tell her I'm ready to start losing some weight, wanting to know what my caloric needs are with breastfeeding and all. She told me that it was really better if I didn't restrict calories right now, my milk supply can be really hard to get back up if it starts to diminish from inadaquate calories. "Gee, that's too bad," I thought as I walked out with my prescription for [whatever]. So we baked up the last of the cookie dough today. It was good. I love being a mom.
